I learned to crochet a few months ago and have learned so much. I wanted to share a few projects.
My most popular paid for item so far has been the ear warmers.
Here are some examples most colors are for local schools and the one with the large rose is for my daughter.

They are made with a double stitch and chain three at each end which gives it the little decorative gap.

I am intimidated by the grill. I have never used one and knowing me I would burn anything I tried to cook on the grill. I usually boil corn but looking through pins on Pinterest I noticed a few friends pinning stuff about baking corn. I Googled it and searched through several and gave it a try.

All you have to do is:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F

Leave corn in husk place on baking sheet or right on the rack

Bake for 30-35 minutes

I keep my corn in the refrigerator so I did 35 minutes. Now after the trial tonight I would recommend doing the larger ears of corn a little longer. They were done at 35 minutes but not quite as soft as the smaller ones.

Overall they were great. I just added a little butter, salt, and pepper. I think I will be cooking them like this for now on.

Thin sliced boneless pork chops
1 bag of frozen mixed veggies
Minute rice
Soy Sauce
Salt
Pepper
Garlic

I use Minute Rice and you will want to start the rice before you cook the veggies and meat.
I use the one measured for 2 servings on the box.
It is called Minute Rice but it takes about 7 minutes. You heat the water to boiling, add rice, stir, remove from heat, cover with a lid, and wait 5 minutes.
I had never made it before and decided to give it a try.
I did a twist to how people usually make it. I used ground hamburger.

Ingredients:

The Wonder Weeks are mental leaps in the first 20 months of your child's life where they learn something new. This could be the reason behind the crankiness of your child. If you are expecting or already have a child this is a must read. They have a book and an app for your phone you can find everything here at their website http://www.thewonderweeks.com/.

We are going through a Wonder Week right now. We are at week 64 and let me tell you it is difficult. He has the three C's mentioned on the website: clinginess, crankiness, and crying. It will all be better eventually but it is a trying time. I know how hard it is when nothing seems to help but happy baby will be back soon. Until then good luck.Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12998015213869504095noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1644353881970483146.post-39521944387288006092013-03-12T13:21:00.001-04:002013-03-12T13:21:53.579-04:00How To Bring a Childs Fever DownI have two kids that are frequently sick and that is part of being kid. The older they get the less they are generally sick. I have put together a list of things that have helped reduce a fever. Please consult a doctor before you give any medicine or treatment. This is just advice on how I do it.

1. Light or no clothing or blankets. A lot of time when there is a fever present the child will feel cold or have hot and cold flashes. A lot of covers or clothes will make the fever worse.

2. Tylenol (acetaminophen) and Motrin or Advil (Ibuprofen). If your baby is 6 months or under they cannot use ibuprofen. They can use Tylenol. Once they are older you can alternate Tylenol and ibuprofen every 3 hours. So if you give Tylenol at 3 pm you give ibuprofen at 6 pm and then Tylenol at 9 pm and so on. Ask a doctor first to ensure you are giving the right amount and how often they should receive it.

3. Keep hydrated. Even if they don't feel like drinking they need to drink. Water, Pedialyte, or Gatorade are all good in any form liquid, ice chips, or frozen Popsicle's They need to pee or have a wet diaper at least once every 12 hours. You can find signs of dehydration here.

4. Luke warm bath. Water will cool them down. They may cry from being put in a bath when they aren't feeling well but it will bring it down a few degrees for a little while anyways.

5. Wash cloth with water put under their arms and on forehead. Once again like a bath it will help bring it down a little bit. They also make cool packs specifically for kids at any drug store they will be just as effective.

Those are my top tips for reducing a fever. Now anytime your child has a fever it their body letting you know something is wrong. It could be because they are getting teeth, have a virus, or an infection of some sort. You should always contact their doctor to make a proper diagnosis. It could be something minor or more serious.
They are very easy to make. You can eat them on dinner rolls, hamburger buns, or yeast rolls. What ever you prefer. You can also add toppings to your sliders. Such as coleslaw, cheese, onions, ranch dressing, blue cheese dressing, or extra BBQ sauce. The directions to this recipe is below the the photos. I hope you enjoy it.
One thing they always love is candy. I could buy hats, shirts, or any other stuff like that but it never gets used. So I found something on Pinterest I could make very easy.
All you need is:
Some of their favorite candy
Empty glass jar with a lid (make sure you remove the label. I did it with fingernail polish remover)
Paint
Paint Brushes

So basically all I did was paint the words 'We Love You To Pieces' because well it is Reese's Pieces.
I also painted the lid because it had the label of pickle brand on it. You could also tie a ribbon around it, come up with some other quirky line to go with the brand of candy, or find a website that lets you print off a label and skip the paint all together.
I also let my kids paint a separate jar and filled it with Reese's Cups and then painted the words 'We Love You Daddy'. They had fun and it washed off easy.
Play around and have fun. I would love to hear some ideas or cute catch phrases for other brands of candy.Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12998015213869504095noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1644353881970483146.post-12551489462908115122013-02-08T12:10:00.001-05:002013-02-08T12:10:24.343-05:00THROUGH A RAPIST’S EYES I copied this from Facebook so sorry for the poor grammar and misspellings.

THROUGH A RAPIST’S EYES” (PLS TAKE TIME TO READ THIS. it may save a life.)
Through a rapist’s eyes. A group of rapists and date rapists in prison were interviewed on what they look for in a potential victim and here are some interesting facts:

1] The first thing men look for in a potential victim is hairstyle. They are most likely to go after a woman with a ponytail, bun! , braid, or other hairstyle that can easily be grabbed. They are also likely to go after a woman with long hair. Women with short hair are not common targets.

2] The second thing men look for is clothing. They will look for women who’s clothing is easy to remove quickly. Many of them carry scissors around to cut clothing.

3] They also look for women using their cell phone, searching through their purse or doing other activities while walking because they are off guard and can be easily overpowered.

4] The number one place women are abducted from / attacked at is grocery store parking lots.

5] Number two is office parking lots/garages.

6] Number three is public restrooms.

7] The thing about these men is that they are looking to grab a woman and quickly move her to a second location where they don’t have to worry about getting caught.

8] If you put up any kind of a fight at all, they get discouraged because it only takes a minute or two for them to realize that going after you isn’t worth it because it will be time-consuming.

9] These men said they would not pick on women who have umbrellas,or other similar objects that can be used from a distance, in their hands.

10] Keys are not a deterrent because you have to get really close to the attacker to use them as a weapon. So, the idea is to convince these guys you’re not worth it.

POINTS THAT WE SHOULD REMEMBER:

1] If someone is following behind you on a street or in a garage or with you in an elevator or stairwell, look them in the face and ask them a question, like what time is it, or make general small talk: can’t believe it is so cold out here, we’re in for a bad winter. Now that you’ve seen their faces and could identify them in a line- up, you lose appeal as a target.

2] If someone is coming toward you, hold out your hands in front of you and yell Stop or Stay back! Most of the rapists this man talked to said they’d leave a woman alone if she yelled or showed that she would not be afraid to fight back. Again, they are looking for an EASY target.

3] If you carry pepper spray (this instructor was a huge advocate of it and carries it with him wherever he goes,) yelling I HAVE PEPPER SPRAY and holding it out will be a deterrent.

4] If someone grabs you, you can’t beat them with strength but you can do it by outsmarting them. If you are grabbed around the waist from behind, pinch the attacker either under the arm between the elbow and armpit or in the upper inner thigh – HARD. One woman in a class this guy taught told him she used the underarm pinch on a guy who was trying to date rape her and was so upset she broke through the skin and tore out muscle strands the guy needed stitches. Try pinching yourself in those places as hard as you can stand it; it really hurts.

5] After the initial hit, always go for the groin. I know from a particularly unfortunate experience that if you slap a guy’s parts it is extremely painful. You might think that you’ll anger the guy and make him want to hurt you more, but the thing these rapists told our instructor is that they want a woman who will not cause him a lot of trouble. Start causing trouble, and he’s out of there.

6] When the guy puts his hands up to you, grab his first two fingers and bend them back as far as possible with as much pressure pushing down on them as possible. The instructor did it to me without using much pressure, and I ended up on my knees and both knuckles cracked audibly.

7] Of course the things we always hear still apply. Always be aware of your surroundings, take someone with you if you can and if you see any odd behavior, don’t dismiss it, go with your instincts. You may feel little silly at the time, but you’d feel much worse if the guy really was trouble.

FINALLY, PLEASE REMEMBER THESE AS WELL ….

1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do: The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do it.

2. Learned this from a tourist guide to New Orleans : if a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you…. chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you and he will go for the wallet/purse. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!

3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car: Kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver won’t see you but everybody else will. This has saved lives.

4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc. DON’T DO THIS! The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU CLOSE the DOORS , LEAVE.

5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage:

a. Be aware: look around your car as someone may be hiding at the passenger side , peek into your car, inside the passenger side floor, and in the back seat. ( DO THIS TOO BEFORE RIDING A TAXI CAB) .

b. If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars.

c. Look at the car parked on the driver’s side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)

6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. (Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot).

7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; And even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN!

8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP IT! It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked “for help” into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.

Send this to any woman you know that may need to be reminded that the world we live in has a lot of crazies in it and it’s better safe than sorry.

If u have compassion reblog this post.
‘Helping hands are better than Praying Lips’ – give us your helping hand.

REBLOG THIS AND LET EVERY GIRL KNOW
ATLEAST PEOPLES WILL KNOW WATS GOIN IN THIS WORLD.
So please reblog this….Your one reblog can Help to spread this information.
I hope you all will Reblog. Lets See how many of you really care for this.

THIS COULD ACTUALLY SAVE A LIFE.

SOURCE: http://goo.gl/uzydRAmandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12998015213869504095noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1644353881970483146.post-6512945204009703992013-01-31T20:12:00.000-05:002013-01-31T20:12:22.433-05:00Homemade Chicken Noodle SoupIt has been cold and snowing where I live.

Ingredients :
1 Pound of chicken
3/4 Bag of egg noodles
3 Sections of celery
10 baby carrots
1 Can of chicken broth
2 Chicken bouillon cubes
Water
Salt
Pepper

Directions:
Dump the can of chicken broth into a large pot.
Add the chicken.
Cut up celery and carrots add it with the chicken.
Add water (enough to go about and inch or two over the chicken. That is to cook the noodles)
Add bouillon cubes and bring to a boil.
Once the chicken is cooked through remove from pot and shred or cut up in chunks.
Put the chicken back in with the carrots and celery.
Bring it back to a boil and add about 3/4 of the bag of egg noodles.
Cook the noodles according to the directions
Add salt and pepper and you are done.

I will tell you once the noodles are cooked you don't want to leave it on the stove any longer
because the noodles will get gross tasting and slimy.

Of course the kids loved it and if you want to try something different I am up to hearing about it.Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12998015213869504095noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1644353881970483146.post-72494192826113939152013-01-14T12:11:00.000-05:002013-01-14T12:11:58.324-05:00Crock Pot Potato and Broccoli Soup

So one of my favorite meals to make is potato soup. Love, love, love it. There are many different ways to make it but I like to take the simple way.

What I typically use for our family of 4 is about 4-6 potatoes depending on the size, two 10.75 oz cans of condensed cheddar cheese soup, one 10.5 oz can of cream of chicken soup, milk (chicken broth can be substituted for milk), and seasoning. This time I added about half a bag of frozen broccoli. Some other add ins I have used are bacon, sour cream, shredded cheese, and ham.

Basically for this recipe you just peel the potatoes, cut them up, open the cans, open the broccoli, and then dump everything in the crock pot. Mix it up and add milk until it covers the potatoes and makes a soup like mixture.

Cook for 4-6 hours on high depending on the amount made. If you made more than the 4-6 potatoes you may have to cook it for 8 hours. It may look too watery but it will cook down and thicken up.

Stuffed Green Bell Peppers

So I have been trying a lot of new recipes recently and something that I love that I have never made is stuffed green bell peppers. I always try to find a recipe online that has everything I plan on using but a lot of the time it has more ingredients like onions, which a certain man won't eat. So I take what I see online and simplify it to fit my needs. For this recipe this is what I used:

1 pound of hamburger

4 large bell peppers

1/2 cup of minute rice

1 - 1 1/2 cups of tomato sauce divided

Seasonings of your choice

Cheese of your choice

So here are the directions
Filling :
First I cooked the rice according to directions.
As the rice was cooking I browned the hamburger.
Drain and rinse the hamburger to remove grease and set aside.
I took one pepper removed all the seeds and cut one half of it up and fried them in the pan the
hamburger came out of until soft.

I mixed the hamburger, rice, half of the tomato sauce, seasonings, a small handful of cheese, and fried peppers.

Peppers:
I cut the tops off of the peppers and removed the insides.
I blanched the peppers. You do this by placing the peppers in boiling water for 3-5 minutes.
Once removed from the boiling water, I placed them in the crock pot and filled the peppers up with the filling.
I dumped the other half of the tomato sauce in the bottom of the crock pot so it will steam up and
keep the peppers moist and then can be used as extra sauce when it is finished..
I then put cheese on top of the peppers and put the lid on.
I cooked them on high for about 4 hours.

I hope you enjoy!

I made this yesterday and it was a big hit especially my picky kids.

What you need is:
1 pound of boneless skinless chicken
1/2 box of Penne noodles
1/2 bag of broccoli
Sour Cream
Salt
Pepper
Garlic
Oil
Heat oil in a large skillet on medium high heat
Heat water for penne to boil and add noodles
While the noodles are cooking add chicken to oil and cook until white
Add frozen broccoli once chicken is white and put lid on
Once broccoli is soft season to taste and add a large spoonful of sour cream.
You want enough sour cream to coat everything.
Once the noodles finish cooking drain them and add them to the pan with the
broccoli and chicken. Stir them in with everything else.
You made need to add more sour cream to coat the noodles as well.
After everything is mixed up it is ready to eat.

Now my kids like cheese. So you could add shredded Parmesan, cheddar, or mozzarella cheese.
You could also make some kind of roll or bread stick on the side. I like Rhodes Yeast Rolls.
I get them at Walmart. Get creative add different stuff.
Leave some feed back on some things you added and I will give it a try.
I asked friends and family and everyone packed different stuff.
Now as an experienced mom of two I have some tips on the top things I pack in mine.

Diapers - I pack at least 3 for my 1 year old now, but with a newborn I would pack a few more. They go through more diapers because they pee more often.

Wipes - They can be used for a lot more than wiping butts. Clean off hands, faces, feet, boogers, to blow your nose, wipe up spilled stuff, and etc. You get the point multiple uses.

Change of Clothes (including socks) - Anything can happen. They could throw up, pee or poop out the side of their diaper, pull the nipple out of the bottle (if bottle fed), take off their socks, or get food on their clothes. I have had to buy a set of clothes at the store because I forgot to pack some after my son pulled his nipple out and dumped the bottle on him and all over the floor at Walmart.

Pacifiers - If they take a pacifier pack extra. Sometimes they like to throw them out on the floor and you don't want to put it back in unless you have washed it at home and some moms boil them.

Bottles, Formula, and Sippy Cup - Seems kind of obvious for a baby (if bottle fed) but I have walked off and left the formula at home. Sippy Cup if old enough for one.

Changing Pad - You don't want to lay your baby on one of these germ infested changing tables in public. Most diaper bags come with one inside or you can purchase a separate one.

Burp Clothes and Bibs - You will need those at each feeding to help keep baby formula, breast milk, baby food, and regular food of you your baby's clothes and your clothes.

Baby Ibuprofen or Baby Tylenol and Gas Drops - A lot of people don't mention this but a fever could show up or they could be teething. They can also have belly pain and it can be from gas. It is always good to have this just in case.

Rash Cream - A rash can show any time better to have it than not.

Toys - To keep little hands entertained.

Nursing Cover - If breast fed.

Stuff Mom Needs - Diaper bags aren't just for baby and toddlers. Put things you need like make up and tampons. I also keep my wallet, phone, and insurance card for doctors appointments.

Now each mom is different. If you breast feed or bottle feed you each need different things.

If I missed something you think is important please leave a comment. I am interested in what other moms put in their bag.Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12998015213869504095noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1644353881970483146.post-13166640485425901372012-12-31T12:47:00.002-05:002012-12-31T13:00:31.768-05:00Pepperoni Rolls from Frozen Yeast Rolls We love pepperoni rolls at our house. I looked online for home made recipes and could never find one I really liked (easy). So I went and experimented and found a yummy one I liked. What I use is frozen dinner yeast rolls (I like the Rhodes brand sold at Walmart), shredded cheese, and pepperoni. I do my pepperoni rolls in muffin tins. Make sure you spray some non-stick spray on the muffin tins.

First you have to let the rolls thaw out until the are pliable like dough.
Then flatten them out like the picture below.

Then add a few slices of pepperoni.

Add a pinch of cheese.

A couple more pieces of pepperoni.
You can skip this step if you want less pepperoni.

Then start to fold the yeast roll over.

Fold until it looks like this.
Now put this side down in the muffin tin.
Cover the muffin tins with plastic wrap coated with non-stick spray.
Set aside and let rise according to the directions on the yeast roll package.

After letting it rise to 3 times the original size bake in the over at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes or until tops are golden brown.

After they are done fresh out of the oven, I like to take a little butter with garlic in it and spread it on top with a basting brush.
These are very good I hope you enjoy them like our family does.
Please ask any questions you have.
Well the time has come. My son will be 1 year old on Friday. I am happy and sad. He is learning so much every day, yet, I want him to stay little. I keep thinking how I want to protect my children from the scary world but the truth is I can't. They all have to grow up and I can only encourage and teach them right from wrong.

Anyways I haven't mentioned Daddy is a redneck so of course he wanted John Deere as his first birthday party theme. So here is a few decorations I have picked up. I didn't have to get much since we are eating at a pizza place and they provide everything else.

My daughter loves it!
The name she picked was Chippy. Which is the name of the Elf in the movie.
We have found him in some funny places.
Here are a few ideas I came up with.
My favorite is Chippy wooing the Barbies.
I love to read. I have a Nook and let me tell you I have have hundreds of books on that thing. All different kinds and I own most of Abbi Glines books.
She has many books out and this is her website http://www.abbiglines.com/
